Frosted Oreo Cookie Cake

My sudden cravings for fudgy chocolate cakes are giving way to Oreo cookies these days.It happens all of a sudden, I get dressed, walk steadily, barge in the nearest super market which is 8 mins away from home, grab a pack and munch on the way! Weird, but let me be honest about it.

When I came across the fairy girl's space with a cake and frosting to compliment, with my weakness ingredient...*Thud*....it was a love affair!

I would go every now and then, eye the cake and virtually taste it until I made my own, finally.
So what really kept me postponing the self treat?
Every time I buy the Oreo packs, wanting to bake the cake, I end up munching the whole pack until the last crumb! (this had been happening for half a dozen times)

I had to tuck myself an overload of cookies to suppress the craving, before I could proceed baking ;)..

The cake, hot out of the oven, turned out to be super light! Let those holes speak..

The cake was still warm when I toppled and applied the frosting.

It was 6 in the evening when I shot the picture in the front yard, in manual mode, increasing the ISO and decreasing the f stop and shutter speed, the exercise I loved to do for a blurry background as per my inspiration post here! In fact this is the first time I shoot in manual mode adjusting the three interlinked factors with the 50mm prime lens. The picture could have been better.. was in a haste as the sunlight was dimming!

Frosted Oreo Cookie Cake

For the cake:
1/2 c butter
1/2 c sugar (original recipe calls for 1 c but I'd halved*)
2 eggs
2 tsp Vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1 3/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 c milk
7 Oreos crushed with hands

Method:

Pre-heat the oven to 180C and line the baking tin.

In a large bowl, beat together the butter, sugar till creamy. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat till fluffy. Add the dry ingredients and milk alternately ,starting and ending with flour. Fold in the crushed cookies.Pour this batter into the prepared tin and bake for 25-30 mins or till done.

^^For the Oreo butter frosting:
1/4 c sugar, powdered
1/2 c butter
2 Oreos, crushed with hands

In a small bowl, beat together sugar and butter till fluffy and pale. Stir in the cookie crumbs and spread it evenly over the cake.A thin layer is better, anyway. Cover the sides too, if you prefer.

Note:

I halved the original recipe. The cake as well as the frosting were towards the sweeter side. I believe this is due to the quality of Oreos we get in India, may be sweeter when compared to the ones in US. So using *half the amount of sugar is a better idea. Again, crushing them with hands were tough as they are harder, so I pulsed in a mixie jar, just a quick shot!

^^I had made changes in the amount of ingredients for frosting as well; quartered the amount of sugar, halved the amount of butter and Oreos as I personally love a thin frosted layer on a less sweeter cake on the whole.

I will be making this one again and again! If you love Oreos, never hesitate to give a shot, you'll fall for this cake!
