Album For The Week ~ Malaichamy Kovil

It had been a while since I posted for 'a picture of the week series'. These pictures were shot in Theni on our way to Thekkadi last week.

I had thought of sharing just a picture but decided upon posting a few just to get the feel of the place as an album, though an overload  :)

Picture of the week ~ The Palace of Illusions

Blogging had been taking away much or whole of my free time for the past 5 years.
Badly wanting to go back to reading I got this novel after my sister's suggestion.

The story is all about Mahabharatha, the greatest epics ever since, in Panchaali's (the Pandavas' wife) point of view! Palace of  Illusions took me to a roller coaster ride of emotions :  pride, fear, anxiety, desire, laughter, worry, envy, resentment.... eventually I saw myself in Panchaali !

Her complicated relationship with Krishna which she herself fails to decipher, the way her heart reaches out for Karna... beautifully portrayed!

I don't remember crying after a novel but this one got my eyes brimming, when Karna confesses to Bheeshma, in his death bed, his mingled feelings of passion and respect, he had for Panchaali!
And again, when Arjun doomed after Krishna's sad end, when panchaali confronts the blue corpse wrapped in yellow silk...
Three loud cheers to you Chitra!!

And this mighty lady, Gandhari, removes the cloth tied around her eyes, powering every cell of her beloved son Duryodhan's body with immense strength so as to withstand the war against Pandavas--- goosebumps!
The way Krishna signals Bheema during the duel with the strong Duryodhan, to break the bones high up his thighs ( he was supposed to be naked when he confronted his mother to acquire her supreme strength in him, but he wore a loin cloth) the part of his body where he had his own/lesser power and Bheema who listens to it is cursed, for breaking the rule of duel war as not supposed to hit a rival under his navel, while Duryodhan enters the heaven.....
Krishna bears the sin and turning to Panchali he says he accepts the sin for her sake, as he couldn't stand the way she was humiliated by Duryodhan in his court and he deserved such a death!
The flashing emotions Krishna sees on her face, the way he gets confused....
Ah! I am losing words here....

After all it's Mahabharatha! which has already found its place to dwell...in my system!!

Picture of the week ~ Body wash. And a Saturday Rant!

The beauty of these simple bottles tempted me to click.
Yet to use this product that arrived from London.

Now,  those who can really put up with my rants / non foodie posts can continue..

..........

Disappointments of the day!

~ Cooked and mashed palak remains 'inedible' and aloo becomes reluctant to get into the slimy base.(Even a kitchen can be the background for an encounter of a Beauty and a Beast!)

~ Incredibly shooting up weight in spite of the third session in slimming centre.

~ The naughty girl next door breaks the glass (that successfully with stood all my crazy stamps for the past 4 years) that topped the (sentimental- since it was gifted by my brother ) weighing scale. On a serious / hopeless hunt for toughened glass, which measures a square foot, in town.

Pleasant moments of the day!

~ Received a courier package from childhood mate, though aware of what was inside, couldn't stop opening like a million dollar/surprise gift!

~ Son's home coming after a month and a half long hostel stay.

~ Cheese pizza (made from the scratch doesn't let me down for the third time) baking in the oven, spreading aroma in the whole house..smells heaven...all for 'The Son!"
Hopefully I'll do the post on that without much delay.

"Doesn't let me down" in the previous sentence in reference to the uncared baking due to 'un-put-downable' read "Keep the Change" is being offering! (So there goes the clue about the morning's courier package).

Since at at least one sub point has overtaken the unpleasant ones, enjoying the beautiful day!

Wishing you all a Wonderful Weekend!

For the hands that cooked, for the fingers that typed...

It has been almost 4 years since I am into blogging and 2 years since I'd commercialised the space. I had my plans to buy a DSLR when the amount hit 1000 USD, but when that was gifted by the dear husband earlier this month, I chose to buy a (my very first) diamond ring, to beautify the hands that cooked and the fingers that typed...

Place where the ring was purchased ~ GRT, Chennai
Particulars of the ring ~ 21 stones, 0.49 cents in total, cost 46.500 INR.

Picture of the week ~ The fruit seller

To bring freedom and opportunity to the common man, to the peasants and workers of India; to fight and end poverty and ignorance and disease; to build up a prosperous, democratic and progressive nation, and to create social, economic and political institutions which will ensure justice and fullness of life to every man and woman...                              ~Tryst with Destiny - Speech by Jawaharlal Nehru

She still comes to my doorsteps twice a week. She has lived past 7 decades and toils still...

Do we really live in an Independent Nation?

Let us join our hands and work together to create a better nation!

Happy Independence Day!

Picture(s) of the Week ~ Living room centre table

Since my living room holds the colours beige, brown and green, the centre table reflects the same.
I clicked these while (dusting the glass, to be true ;)) rearranging  the conchs and the potpourri, the usual stuff on the table.

Picture of the Week ~ With Love from Singapore!

And I unpacked the very exclusive courier package I received from my sister ...

The products were supposedly meant for my daughter but should I say I conveniently flicked half of them? ;)

My son uses the black Google tee and the red one, my cousin sis.

Lush - I have totally fallen in love with this one.The seductive fragrance of this hair moisturiser stays for days!
Addictive Lush!

Have I ever told you that I'm a lip gloss person rather than a lip stick one? Well, this was sent for me and I am loving the 'Linda's beige!'. The L' Oreal Infallible Gloss stays on your lips making them supple, for a day!

The Gently Purify Gel is already with my daughter while the sensual amber is with me. Yet to use the Rice Extract Body Milk.

The Google, L'Oreal, B & BW, Body Shop, Thann and Lush all stand  inferior to her Love and Care!

POTW ~ Kitty on the Wall

As a matter of fact, I hate cats! Yes, I do!
But surprisingly this kitten has become my pet ever since he popped in one fine day at amma's house. He was fed fresh milk, fish, meat, bread and rice whenever he was hungry and he chased and pounced on the mice in return..
He welcomes me with a soft meaow during my occasional visits to amma's and I take care of him until I leave..
While packing my things after the Christmas holidays, 3 months back, my parents were seeing me off and he sat there with his softest continuous meows, with his head hanging down. I almost cried while patting him....my parents too ....

This picture was taken on a sunny afternoon while enjoying his peaceful nap after one of his sumptuous 'fish n rice' lunches.

POTW ~ When I clicked Damu @ 02:39:08

You might be aware of the news of Chef Damodaran who had set a new Guiness World Record for 'Longest cooking Marathon--Individual'

Under the watchful eyes of the judges and television cameras, I had a tough time clicking him around!

This picture is my favourite among a few, I managed to shoot on the special day!

Photo of the Week ~The Calm woods of Kolli Hills

I have bragged enough and more about the ancestral home in the village located at the foot of the historical Kolli Hills of Tamil Nadu :).

Soon after the Pongal feast, this year, we ; my in-laws, parents and myself, headed uphill for a day.

What you see here is just a section of the calm woods kissing the sky with the simple home garden towards the front, outside the house we stayed up the hill.

Photo of the Week ~ Start of a new series!

Stare. It is the way to educate your eye, and more. Stare, pry, listen, eavesdrop. Die knowing something. You are not here long. - Walker Evans

Photo of the Week is a new series which I had wanted to start for a long time; the casual shots which my humble camera badly wants to bring forth in Spicy Chilly, the ones which get unnoticed among the regular stream of food fotos; happy moments, nature, street shots or even house ware, subjects are countless!

Hope you would enjoy the 'off track' food posts in this of mine, for a change, as I do.

Again, today marks another year since the author of this blog was introduced to this wonderful world. Hope she will be able to carry the series successfully till the same day, next year, with all your ardent support and love, which you continue to shower on her!

Cheers,
Bharathy

The picture was taken on Pongal day, just before the prayers, with the invisible pots of sakkarai and pal pongal in the background :)
